The Emmy awards are given to actors, actresses, and musicians for their performances and are the most widely recognized award in the entertainment industry.
Several actresses have won Emmy awards in the drama and comedy series categories. This includes Meryl Streep, Laura Linney Eve Arden, Shelley Winters, Julie Harris, Loretta Young, Lizzo Sarah Paulson, Kirstie Louise Alley Jane Fonda Claire Danes Elisabeth Moss, Julia Garner, Lee You-mi, and Viola Davis.
The first awards for acting Emmys were presented at the 6th Primetime Emmy Awards on February 11, 1954. After 1966, the awards split into drama and comedy categories. These awards are presented by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Best Actor
Seong Gi-Hun from “The Squid Game” has won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his performance. Recent years have become the golden age of Korean shows, and many awards have been given to actors and actresses from these series.
Along with Seong Gi-Hun, another actor from the series has also been awarded an Emmy.
Best Actress
Zendaya became the youngest Emmy Award Winner for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She beat out the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Laura Linney, Sandra Oh, and Jodie Comer. Her victory marked the second time in her career that a young actress won the top award.
Zendaya also made history as the first Black woman to win the award twice. She was also nominated for her role on HBO’s Euphoria. The show also earned awards for its choreography and cinematography.
Best Series
HBO’s “Succession” won the Emmy for best drama series. The show is a satirical look at the power plays in corporate America. It also won in the music composition category. It was also the first non-English show to compete in the best drama category.
Netflix’s “Stranger Things” won five Creative Arts Emmys. Julia Garner won for her role in the series. She also took home the Emmy for Best Actress for her role in the show.
“Ted Lasso” won the Emmy for best comedy series. The show debuted on Apple TV Plus in August and was nominated for 20 awards this year. Its stars, Jason Sudeikis and Brett Goldstein have won an Emmy twice in this category.
Best Drama Guest Actress
Lee Yoo-mi, a Korean actress, won the Best Drama Guest Actress Emmy award for her role in Netflix’s Squid Game. She is the first Korean actress to win an Emmy in this category. Lee’s nomination came a little less than a week before her 28th birthday.
The series received 14 nominations for its first season, with a total of 1.65 billion viewing hours. Netflix’s nomination round runs from June 16 to 27, and the official Emmy nominations are expected to be announced in July.
Other nominees include Marcia Gay Harden for The Morning Show, and Ted Lasso, for Ozark. Tom Pelphrey is nominated for drama guest actor.
